Technical FAQ

All of your personal and profile information can be found by clicking the “My Account” link in the menu at the top right of the home page. You may also change your password from this area.

For the best experience a PC or Mac with the following minimum specifications is recommended:
  • 1GB RAM
  • Video resolution of 1024 x 768
Broadband internet access is recommended. Some video material may require audio output.
An HTML 5 Capable web-browser is strongly recommended.
  • Safari 5.1 or Above
  • Firefox 10 or Above
  • Chrome 16 or Above
  • Internet Explorer 9 or above
However, the site will also function properly and has been tested with Internet Explorer 8. Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Acrobat may be required for some content.

To create an account, click the Create an Account link in the menu above.

A password reset can be initiated by clicking the login button at the top right of the home page. Then click the “Forgot password?” link found on the login page. You will need to provide either your username or e-mail address that you registered your account with to receive your new password.

A list of upcoming courses is available on the Upcoming Courses page. Go there, then select the one you’d like to register for. You will need to sign in or create an account to complete the process.

Yes, you can. Once you’ve logged in, click on the “Upcoming Courses” button. Select the course you would like to participate in. If the class is full, you can click the “Wait List Me” button to add your name to the wait list.
Online credit card payment.

Yes. Participants complete a pre-course quiz online.

Except for remote areas of Canada, you should receive the book within a maximum of 10 days after ordering it.

On iBooks. Easiest way to find it on iBooks is to search “Socransky”
The book is not available as a PDF.
No. Once we find an electronic format that works as well for Android, Windows, etc. we will make the eBook available in other formats. But so far, nothing comes close enough to iBooks Author software for interactivity and functionality.
There is no pocket card for The EDE 2 Course at present.
Yes. The goal is to have it available for course participants by Fall 2019. It will function as a bedside reminder for how to do the various scans.
The old PowerPoint lectures are no longer in use. The online modules will remain available to participants (who took the course under the new format) until the Smart Phone App is available. We may be making the online modules available as a standalone offering in the future.
There is a $300 discount for residents (maximum: 2 resident discounts per course). In order to receive the discount, we need to receive an email from your residency director that you have completed your CEUS training or equivalent).

It takes approximately a total of ten hours to complete the online modules. The live part of the course lasts about 9 hours, from 8 AM to 5 PM.
You need to complete the modules prior to the live part of the course. The rest is up to you. You can complete the modules at a time and place of your choosing. You can do them all in 1 day. You can do 1 module per day. Whatever works for you.
The old EDE 2 lectures in PowerPoint format have been converted to online modules. The modules are not simple video recordings of the lectures. The modules are totally cutting-edge and interactive. The modules allow participants to go through the material at their own pace, and at a time of their own choosing. Participants can go through the material as often as they like. The online modules have been designed to make the learning experience informative, interesting and more importantly… enjoyable. Participants are able to: Read text Click on audio clips Review live images, illustrations, and ultrasound images Watch live videos & ultrasound videos Use their cursor to identify structures, indicate screen orientation, and indicate whether a scan is positive or negative Answer pop quizzes or perform an activity with immediate feedback provided
It’s amazing to see how variable the interests of emergency physicians are. One physician may be find one topic very useful but the next physician will see no need for it. For private courses, the topics can be varied.
There are literally dozens of indications in the emergency ultrasound literature. Even in a 2 day course, it is impossible to include them all. Nonetheless, we are certainly open to suggestions.
Yes, food, drinks, and coffee are provided at lunch and during the morning and afternoon breaks.
No. The lunch break lasts 40 minutes so you won’t have time to do much more than eat and take a bathroom break.
Although it is our recommendation that you would have obtained your IP status with CEUS before taking EDE 2, we recognize that this will not always be possible. Nonetheless, adequate probe skills will enhance your ability to grasp the EDE 2 indications. Basic probe skills are assumed and are not taught at the bedside. If you have only taken a basic course and done little else, you will struggle.

For training requirements beyond The EDE 2 Course, we suggest that you consult with a certifying body, such as CPOCUS (www.cpocus.ca).

A request was submitted to the Royal College for approval of the retroactive awarding of Section 1 credits. Unfortunately, the request was rejected.
For courses with 20 participants, there are 10 ultrasound machines and a minimum of 8 instructors. If you can find an advanced bedside ultrasound course that has better numbers, please let us know!
